My racing career started off in Go-Karts in 1997. I raced nationally for three years. In 2000, Rick Tibben (my Dad) and I moved up to the open wheel Modified that is designed specifically for oval dirt tracks.
The following statistics summarize my karting career.
For half of 1998 and all of 1999, MBS Engines out of California provided us with engine sponsorship for the Stock Heavy division. Also in 1999 continuing into 2000, JBR Racing out of Lincoln, Ne. supplied us with a complete kart and engines in support of my racing endeavors. In 2000, I tried to maintain my karting career as well as learning a whole new driving style in the Modified. Before making the decision to devote full time to the modified team, I was running 1st in points in Stock Medium division and 2nd in points in the Stock Heavy division. For the year, we raced at tracks located in Corning, Webster City, Audubon, Harlan and Sioux City, Iowa.
The 2001 season saw us starting to understand the complexities of setting up our modified suspension and the intrigues of racing in this highly competitive division. We were able to obtain 3 top 5s, 15 top 10s, 22 top 15s and jumping up to 8th in points at Adams County Speedway in Corning, Ia.
To start off 2002, I ran 3rd and 8th at two of the six features at Volusia Speedway Park outside of Daytona, Fl. during Daytonas Speedweek events leading up to the Daytona 500. We expanded our efforts been two points series this year. We captured 3rd place in the Mr. Goodscents Super Series promoted by the World Dirt League and 4th place in the Kosiski Auto Parts Hammer Down Awards for passing points in this series. However this added series did stretch the team as we earned 13th place in season points at Adams County Speedway. Our season totals included 8 top 5s, 13 top 10s, 25 top 15s with 19 of the racing events having greater than 45 entries in the Modified division. For the year we raced in Davenport, Corning, Harlan, Denison, Des Moines, West Union and Echo Valley, Iowa.
